Many Antipsychotic drugs are associated with sexual dysfunction, a side effect that may lead to patient’s noncompliance and dissatisfaction. Both the schizophrenic illness itself and medication effect are implicated but the mechanism of which is uncertain. To increase schizophrenic patients’ quality of life, self esteem and drug compliance, consideration and proper management of sexual dysfunction are necessary. For this purpose we reviewed the prevalence, possible mechanisms and their management of antipsychotic-induced sexual dysfunction in schizophrenic patients. (Schizophrenia Clinics 2003;6:90-99) |
